  • About

Al-Houssan also participated in extensive research while at RCSI, which allowed him to become a co-author and contributor to peer-reviewed, scientific publications. He was involved in cat allergy tests for approximately three years. In Ottawa, Canada, he partnered with Red Maple Trials to verify the city's first naturalistic cat allergy exposure chamber. The findings were published in European Respiratory Journal and Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, respectively.

Al-Houssan graduated from RCSI with a degree in medicine at the age of 24. He was in the top 15% of his class based on his scores, grades, and tests. He earned his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, and Bachelor of Obstetrics and Gynecology (MB, BCh, BAO) degrees with honors.

Al-Houssan completed various medical licensing examinations outside of his usual curriculum for both Canada and the United States, all of which he passed with scores above the national average. He scored in the 99th percentile on the National Assessment Collaboration's Objective Structured Clinical Examination (NAC OSCE) of Canada, which assessed the fitness of non-Canadian medical school graduates.

Al-Houssan put his training into effect right away as a preliminary resident at the University of Connecticut after graduating and getting his medical qualification. He worked full-time in Hartford and Farmington, Connecticut, rotating across numerous hospitals, including the region's only two level one trauma centers. Al-Houssan obtained vast expertise working in various aspects of patient care while working as a general surgery resident. After a successful year there, he was admitted as a category resident at UConn, where he completed his 5-year surgical residency.
